If you are in Penang and want to go to Langkawi using a ferry then it’s very easy to do. This Penang to Langkawi Ferry Guide will take you through the process. I did it myself recently.

Penang to Langkawi Ferry trip

I came to visit Penang from Ipoh province in Malaysia and then I wanted to go to Langkawi. I searched on Google and found that there is a ferry station in Penang near little India.

The ferry terminal is located near Little India in Penang, it’s in George town which is the capital of Penang state in Malaysia. if you are in George town then you can simply take a taxi to the ferry terminal.

it shouldn’t cost you more than 10 MYR. you can go on a walk as well if you have Google Maps and you are near the ferry terminal. for us, it was free of hassle to reach the terminal.

The first thing is to buy the ticket which is 70 MYR per person from Penang to Langkawi, you can buy it from the ticket office which is the first thing you’ll see when you arrive outside the terminal.

How Much Time it Takes to Reach Langkawi?

After the ticket, you’ll go through screening in the terminal and then you’ll walk to the main terminal where you can wait for your ferry time. it takes 2 hours and 30 minutes or less to reach the beautiful Langkawi in Malaysia.

I did this trip myself, and I enjoyed it a lot. the weather was fantastic. the ferry is not an open ferry, so you have to sit inside, and simply look at the sea from a window.

Although, it is very easy to get a ferry from Penang to Langkawi, if you are interested or want to do then you can take a ferry from Kedah to Langkawi which is cheaper.

One important thing to remember is that there are only two times available for ferry from Penang to Langkawi. one is the morning at 8:00 AM and the second time is 2:00 PM in the afternoon.

You can also book the ticket in advance if you want. but generally, you should be fine with the ticket when you arrive at the terminal just an hour before the ferry leaves for Langkawi.
